Qantas Flight QF581 cancelled after collision with ground equipment

A plane has been grounded after a collision with a baggage carrier at Darwin Airport, leaving a planeload of passengers stuck at the terminal.

A BAGGAGE carrier has crashed into a plane at Darwin Airport, with almost a full flight’s worth of passengers stranded in the Darwin Airport terminal.

A brief statement from Airport Development Group confirmed ground service equipment has damaged the flight which has been cancelled.

One passenger on board the flight QF581 destined for Perth, who wished to remain anonymous, said the crash rattled the plane.

“The plane rocked a bit, people where like what was that, the person next to me saw it and said the baggage truck has hit the plane,” he said.

“Pilot got up and left the plane to inspect … that’s when we new we not going anywhere. (We’re) all at airport waiting to see what they are going to do now.”

It is not known how long passengers may be waiting for a new flight.
