Cheers! Two-hour pub time limits, mandatory food restrictions end

TERRITORIANS can head back to pubs and bars today without having to worry about two-hour time limits or having to buy food with their beer.

Under Stage 3 of NT’s newly relaxed restrictions which come in at noon on Friday people will be allowed to attend a bar without food being consumed.

Darwin proprietor Jason Hanna, who owns several eateries including The Deck Bar, said he hopes today’s new changes will lead to a boost in trade.

“Who knows how this weekend will be in terms of trade, but let’s face it every camping spot in the Territory is going to be full so we’ll have to wait and see if things pick up,” he said.

Restrictions on entertainment venues and cinemas will also be lifted across the NT from noon today.

Darwin CBD’s only cinema Deckchair will be opening tonight after being forced to delay its usual dry season opening in April. General manager James Parker said the opening is a return to business as “almost usual”.

“I am incredibly excited to be able to open the cinema and screen films once again,” he said.

“There are now more than 1200 members who have been holding out for opening night – and we couldn’t be happier with the opening selection – Pain and Glory from renowned Spanish director Pedro Almodovar.”

Birch Carroll and Coyle Cinemas don’t have a confirmed opening date at the moment for venues at Casuarina Square or Gateway.
