TWO men have been charged and three vehicles seized after videos surfaced on social media of cars allegedly hooning in Angurugu community on Groote Eylandt.

The footage shows a LandCruiser fishtailing and chucking doughnuts while being followed by police.

Another video taken some time later shows the 4WD still flying but this time rattling past on a back rim missing its tyre. Several people are visible in the front and back of the vehicle.

NT Police OIC Senior Sergeant Tanya Woodcock said two male drivers observed hooning on December 25 and January 1 were charged and a HiLux and two LandCruisers seized.

A 45-year-old man was charged with driving unregistered and an uninsured car, damage to road surface and conducting burnouts.

A 23-year-old man was charged with driving unregistered and uninsured, damage to road surface, burnouts, endangering occupants of a car, recklessly endanger, driving in a dangerous manner and failing to stop.

A further three people are expected to receive notices.

A fourth vehicle was also seized on Thursday for hooning and the male driver in his 20s charged.

“Police are prosecuting offenders in relation to this irresponsible behaviour,” Sgt Woodcock said. “Vehicles used in the offending have been seized, with an ongoing operation to seize additional vehicles where there is evidence of traffic offences.”
