Criteria for the shortlist was not limited to Chinese-specific restaurants but rather the flavour, composition and creativity behind the variety of dumplings across venues.

MEET THE NOMINEES

Go Sushi X

As the name suggests, Go Sushi X is known for their Sushi but can also put together a variety of Japanese-style Gyoza, serving as a nice side dish to get your tastebuds tingling alongside your sushi.

Lazy Susan’s

Dumplings are the star of this eatery’s Yum Cha menu. Hot and steamy Xiao Long Bao are the leading dish and even boast a warning to foodies to beware of the hot broth inside. Also on the menu are siu mai dumplings, har gow dumplings, spinach, and vegetarian dumplings. There’s a dumpling for everyone’s tastes.

Little Miss Korea

The Korean BBQ experience Little Miss Korea provides is made all the more tasty with a side of dumplings. Whether opting for a BBQ pack or a bibimbap bowl, a serve of dumplings will have you satisfied well before the meal is done.

Madame Za

This eatery’s steamed prawn and chive gyoza are one of its starring small plates. With an XO dipping sauce and accompanying lime cheek, the gyoza are just one part of Madame Za’s delicious menu.

May’s Dumplings

A market favourite, making weekly appearances at Rapid Creek and Parap Markets, May’s Dumplings serve a wide variety of treats to those looking to spend their weekend the right way in the Top End.

Nonna’s Dumplings

Their juicy steamed dumplings Xiao Long Bao is a favourite with their clientele, who have to be quick during the lunchtime rush hour to ensure they snare a serve. But if they aren’t quick enough, a vast menu including kimchi and park dumplings will leave you with a full belly and a happy heart.

OKA Teppanyaki

One of the Top End’s best Japanese eateries, OKA Teppanyaki offers a variety of pan-fried dumplings with its special house gyoza sauce. Not only is OKA known for its stellar Japanese, but for the buzzing atmosphere in one of Darwin’s most popular suburbs.
