NT Police are calling for information about a suspicious shed fire at Top Camp Tennant Creek.

Detective Sergeant Marek Hutchinson-Goncz said, “The fire occurred this morning (Sunday) at approximately 7:00am – firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and no injuries were reported”.

Anyone with information or was a witness of the incident is urged to call 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Woman arrested in Alice Springs

12PM APR 15: A WOMAN has been arrested following an aggravated assault in Alice Springs.

Police received a report of man assaulted with an edged weapon in an Alice Springs Town Camp at around 9pm on Thursday night.

The victim is in a stable condition in Alice Springs Hospital.

The 44-year-old woman was arrested at the scene.

“At this stage, we believe this to a domestic violence related assault.

“Investigations are ongoing and charges are expected later today,” Detective Senior Sergeant Marcus Becker said.

Police officer spat on in Tennant Creek

4PM APR 14: A POLICE officer was allegedly spat in the face by a teenager after coming across an abandoned car at Tennant Creek.

Acting Commander Kirsten Engels said the “disgusting act” allegedly occurred while the officer was investigating the stolen car

Police reported the vehicle was stolen from Alice Springs early Wednesday morning, and it was found abandoned in Tennant Creek around 6pm that evening.

Five teenagers, aged between 14 and 16, were located by police a short time later.

Ms Engels said during the arrest one of the teens allegedly spat at the female officer, striking her forehead.

“Spitting on anyone is a disgusting act that will not be tolerated,” she said.

The officer went to Tennant Creek Hospital and was quickly able to return to duty.

Police charged a 14-year-old boy with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and he was bailed to appear in court on April 14.

The remaining youths were released under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.

Police allege one of the boys was involved in another car theft that same evening.

Police said a 15-year-old was arrested for a second time after he was identified through CCTV allegedly stealing a Suzuki Swift at Tennant Creek.

He was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Children allegedly wreck havoc on Alice Springs streets

1PM, APR 14: A GROUP of children allegedly terrorised their way through the Alice Springs city centre, throwing property to the ground and assaulting a person.

Northern Territory Police have called for witnesses in the wake of the large disturbance on Wednesday afternoon.

Police allege between 3pm and 4.20pm a large number of young people created the disturbance at a number of businesses along Railway Terrace, Bath Street and Stott Terrace.

Superintendent Antony Deutrom said reports from the public alleged the children were strewing property around, and one report of an assault.

“This sort of violent, unruly behaviour is unacceptable,” Supt. Deutrom said.

Four children were detained before being released pending further investigation.

Supt Deutrom urged for any witnesses and those with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact police, quoting the reference number 9979138.

A 15-year-old girl was thrown off a jetski and sustained facial injuries

APR 14: A 15-YEAR-OLD girl has sustained facial injuries after she “came off” a jetski she was riding at Manton Dam on Thursday afternoon.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said the girl was treated by paramedics and her injuries were “not too serious”.

“Obviously a lot of people out there over the school holidays, enjoying the hot weather and enjoying (it) so we treated her,” Mr Garraway told ABC Darwin.

“Not so serious but probably just a warning, there are a lot of jet skis on that lake or dam and just be careful when you’re utilising them.”

Also on Thursday, a single vehicle rolled on Tiger Brennan Dr last night, resulting in minor injuries.

“We seem to have a lot of single vehicle rollover’s on tiger Brennan, but thankfully no serious injuries,” Mr Garraway said.

“We did take someone to hospital but only for a check up and I’m sure they’ve probably been released by the hospital now hopefully.”

Cheeky crocs get caught

WED 12PM: A GROUP of “cheeky” crocs have been visiting people’s homes and tipping over tinnies in the Daly River.

NT Police and Parks and Wildlife rangers were called to trap a number of saltwater crocodiles until they could find the troublemaking reptiles.

Police said residents complained of the “cheeky crocodiles” coming up by the bank of the river behind their homes.

“With one even tipping over a small tinny moored to a tree,” a police spokesman said.

Police said one of the crocs captured was 3.9m long, and locals confirming it was one of the misbehaving predators.

Police said the animals were taken to a crocodile farm near Darwin.

Following the close encounters of the croc-kind, police are reminding Territorians to be aware of the dangers lurking in the water.

“Crocodiles often hang around the back of the community after floods and high river levels,” a spokesman said.

Call for witnesses to Darwin Park assault

WED 12PM: WITNESSES are being urged to come forward following an assault at a Darwin park.

NT Police are investigating the assault of a woman by a man in Butters Park on Monday afternoon.

It was alleged the assault occurred near the corner of Byrne Cct and Beck St, Moil around 1:30pm.

Constable First Class Fiona Henwood said investigators were aware of a number of people in the area at the time of the incident.

Constable Henwood appealed for witnesses to come forward.

“Police believe this is an isolated incident and don’t believe the alleged offender poses a risk to the greater community,” she said.
