Two teenagers have been arrested after a vicious early morning assault in Palmerston on Friday.
NT Police said about 7.15am they received reports that two males aged 16 and 18 had allegedly been assaulted by two 17-year-old males at the Palmerston bus depot.
The alleged victims were preparing to catch a bus to Darwin High School when the assault allegedly occurred.
Police said the 18-year-old suffered head injuries and was taken to Palmerston Hospital for treatment.
The 16-year-old also suffered injuries but did not require treatment.
The education department refused to comment on the incident, but a statement sent to Darwin High School staff said only one student had been assaulted.
“This morning one of our Year 12 students was assaulted at the Palmerston bus depot and is in hospital,” the statement said.
“A number of our students witnessed this and came and let me know when they got to school.
“(Name withheld) has been given the names of some student witnesses to provide support.
As there a large number of students the bus stop there may be more that need support. Please refer them to the SSC.”
Police said both alleged offenders were arrested immediately after the incident and remained in police custody.
They are expected to be charged.
Strike Force Trident has carriage of the investigation, which is continuing.
Youths flee stolen car after crashing into fence
Watch commander Alex Noonan said aToyota Prado was stolen shortly after midnight before witnesses reported seeing it running red lights and striking the side mirror of a car.
Sergeant Noonan said after the crash at a property in Karama members of the public reported seeing six youths fleeing the scene.
Police are still yet to identify the youths involved.
Sergeant Noonan said a man, 44, was also arrested following a separate incident in Casuarina in which he allegedly stole two bottles of wine from a bottle shop and threatened a security guard with a pair of pliers.
The man then allegedly resisted police and punched a female officer in the abdomen before being taken into custody.
Meanwhile, officers are appealing for information from the public following a bushfire that threatened several rural properties in Livingstone on Wednesday.
A police spokeswoman said aerial bombers and “significant ground resources” were required to bring the blaze under control when it burnt through a “large area” on Kentish Road.
Acting Commander James Gray-Spence said “assaults on officers was shameful behaviour”.
“Thankfully the employees at the bottle shops and the security weren’t injured, and our members weren’t seriously injured,”
“These incidents highlight the dangerous frontline work our members undertake every day in the interest of protecting Territorians.”

Men in custody after alleged assault of child in caravan
NT Police have arrested two men alleged to have assaulted a young child after breaking into a caravan overnight.
Police received reports an intruder had allegedly entered the caravan through a window in Nightcliff about 3.30am on Thursday.
Police further allege the intruder went on to assault a young child who was inside the caravan at the time.
Two men have since been arrested and remain in custody while investigations continue.
Driver allegedly intoxicated and busted with 30kg of cannabis
A man has been arrested and charged after he was allegedly driving under the influence of weed and amphetamine, while carrying more than 30kg of cannabis in his car.
NT Police general duties officers stopped the 36 year old for random alcohol and drug testing on the Stuart Highway in Adelaide River on Monday morning.
Police allege he tested positive for cannabis and amphetamine and a search of his vehicle allegedly uncovered 30.4kg of cannabis inside.
The man was charged with driving with dangerous drug in blood, possessing a commercial quantity of a schedule two dangerous drug and supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule two dangerous drug.
He was remanded in custody and is set to appear in the Darwin Local Court on Tuesday.
Man arrested for strangling partner in alleged DV assault
A woman has been left with serious injuries to her head and ribs after her partner allegedly choked and strangled her at a Top End caravan park.
NT Police were called to reports of a 33-year-old man assaulting his partner, 25, at the Coolalinga caravan park on the Stuart Highway in the early hours of Friday morning.
The alleged victim was found with “serious” injuries to her head and ribs about 2.40am, with emergency services taking the woman to Royal Darwin Hospital.
The man was arrested at the scene a short time later and was later charged with acts intended to cause serious harm and deprivation of liberty.
Domestic and Family Violence Unit detectives also charged him with choking and strangling in a domestic relationship.
The man was remanded in custody and faced the Darwin Local Court on Monday.
