Chief Health Officer Hugh Heggie has impacted the lives of all Territorians in 2020 and has been chosen as our No.1 Most Powerful.
“Heggie has been the one who has advised Chief Minister Michael Gunner what to do regarding closing our borders, how many people can be at the pub, if hairdressers can cut hair, the list goes on,” the panel says.
“We have never experienced anything like this year when health professionals such as Heggie can introduce laws at a pinch to keep us locked in our own homes.
“The life-impacting power Heggie has at his fingertips is arguably the most power anyone has had in the Territory since self-government in 1978.”

Coming in at No.2 is The Virus.
“If there was a ever a year a ‘thing’ made No.2 on our Most Powerful list, 2020 is the one,” the panel says.
“This time last year, jokes were flying around about a Chinese virus named after a Mexican beer.
“But as we rolled into the new year, Territorians quickly realised The Virus was no joke.”
