A NEW fund to assist hospitality workers with the costs of upskilling and development has launched in the Territory.
The Local Hospitality Upskilling and Development Fund is a pilot project by Hospitality NT, aiming to fill a gap in funding currently available for existing staff in the industry and provide opportunities for career and skill development.
The fund is available for assistance with the costs of non-accredited training and workshops, interstate trade and industry forums and competitions. It is also available for attendances at expos or conferences and any other relevant upskilling or development activities.
Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce said it was critical to provide financial assistance for upskilling and professional development opportunities for local hospitality workers.
“This is about incentivising existing hardworking employees to stay in our industry and improve and master their skills,” he said.

“We’ve been working with schools and training providers for years now and trying to encourage more Territorians into our industry. What we have noticed is the way to keep people in our industry and retain them for longer is through providing these training opportunities to compete interstate and have a Team NT approach.
“Given continued border uncertainty it is imperative we grow and develop our own local workforce.”
The fund also has the support of Jobs and Training Minister Paul Kirby.
