INITIAL reports from city motorists have shown the closure of Cavenagh Street car park hasn’t created congestion, with displaced parkers seemingly having filtered across the city’s remaining bays.

City of Darwin economic development and tourism manager Josh Sattler said since closing on June 29, complaints and queries had been minimal.
“Anecdotally the impact of closing Cavenagh Street car park has not been significant, and motorists have dissipated across the city, relatively few complaints have been received by council,” he said.

The full impact of the closure will be revealed in the next quarterly parking statistics report in October.
