Most Territorians spending $400 per tourism voucher

MORE than $8.6m has been generated by the Northern Territory government’s Territory Tourism Vouchers.
There have been more than 21,000 vouchers redeemed at tourism venues across the NT, with most Territorians spending just over $400 per voucher.
About $1.5m of the money generated has been raised in just over a month – in the first week of August the Sunday Territorian reported $7.1m had been spent through the voucher scheme.

Tourism Minister Natasha Fyles said it was encouraging to see people using the scheme.
“The Territory Tourism Vouchers have seen an immediate and welcome return for tourism operators in what have been unprecedented and difficult times for many,” she said.
“Our COVID-19 health crisis has caused an economic crisis, and I know many in the industry are hurting. It is pleasing to see Territorians are out enjoying their own back yards and supporting local.”
The new figures come as Tourism NT plans to hit the road with a Territory-wide industry roadshow.
Starting in the Red Centre on Monday, the roadshow will make five stops over four days, stopping at Yulara, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine and Darwin. Tourism operators will be able to attend information sessions on destination management plans, marketing updates, a Territory Tourism Voucher round one overview, and the digital support program launch.
It is the first Territory-wide face-to-face roadshow since the full effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic have been felt by the tourism and hospitality industries.

Ms Fyles said it was “timely to commence the tourism industry roadshow which will no doubt address the impacts on the industry of COVID-19”.
“We’re fortunate to be able to undertake this roadshow face-to-face with no active COVID-19 cases and no community transmission at any stage here in the NT,” she said.
The tourism voucher scheme is set to be extended for two more rounds, with round two set to launch on November 1.
