THE Tanami gold mine remains in lockdown with Newmont Australia working with authorities to ensure staff remain safe.

Operations at the mine remain shut down.

The mine was the initial location where a FIFO worker tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday.

In a statement Newmont Australia said everyone was isolating in individual rooms, except for those completing essential work such as catering and support services.

“At the direction of the Northern Territory Department of Health, some individuals including

positive cases and close contacts have been transferred from site to the Howard Springs

quarantine facility in Darwin,” the statement read.

A rapid response team from the Health Department has been sent down to the site and Newmont is implementing any further actions directed by the department.

“Newmont is mobilising additional external resources to Tanami to assist with support services, as our focus is on the health and safety of our workforce and particularly those currently isolating on site.”

“Newmont is also in close contact with other State Governments to assist with any required

information to support contract tracing and testing of those approximately 800 individuals who

have left Site since the 18th June 2021.”

All staff who have returned from Tanami since that time are subject to health directions in their relevant States or Territory.
