Major Events Minister Paul Kirby said Season 7 of the campaign generated $47.3m expenditure in the Territory economy – a new record for the competition.
“It helps increase visitor numbers during the quieter months, and more than 70 per cent of those who visited to take part last season said they’d be keen to come back this season,” Mr Kirby.
“The competition supports local businesses and puts the Top End on the map as a must-do fishing and events destination.”
Season 7 went down in the history books as the most successful for local, interstate and international fishos who tried their luck with more money paid out than ever.
The season will start next month and continue into early next year from October 1 to March 31.
