Men in Mataranka headed to court for alleged Covid noncompliance, drink driving offences

Two men have been fined for allegedly not complying with Covid regulations, as well as a multitude of serious traffic offences.

TWO men have been slapped with Covid fines as well as a multitude of other offences in Mataranka.

NT Police said in Mataranka on Friday a 31-year-old man was apprehended for driving a vehicle through a public car park about 9pm.

The driver later returned a breath test reading of .148 per cent.

There were multiple people in the vehicle not from the same residence and the driver wasn’t wearing a mask.

He was given a summons to appear for: driving medium range BrAC, driving unlicensed, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle and contravention of emergency declaration.

A 37-year-old man was apprehended on Martin Rd just after 9.30pm. He returned a breath analysis reading of .090 per cent. There were multiple people in the vehicle not from the same residence and the driver wasn’t wearing a mask.

He was issued a notice to appear for: driving medium range BrAC, driving an unsafe motor vehicle, riving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle, failing to produce a driver’s licence on request and contravention of emergency declaration.

“Northern Territory Police will continue to target drink drivers as the harm that alcohol causes is enormous and the behaviour of these people is unacceptable,” said Superintendent Peter Dash.
