CONCERNS have been raised for a second heritage tree on the Charles Darwin University CBD campus site on Cavenagh St.
Independent Member for Nelson Gerry Wood said the milkwood tree, estimated to be more than 100 years old, hadn’t been addressed by CDU in the campus’ design, unlike the nearby boab tree.

“I think it’s just as important as the boab tree,” he said.
“We don’t have a lot of trees of significance in Darwin … What we’ve got, we’ve got to make sure we keep those from an environmental perspective and a historical and cultural perspective.
“And also the Darwin plan is to green the CBD so let’s not brown it anymore than we have to.”

CDU recently completed geotechnical drilling to assess the cost of developing the precinct and prepare the design.
