A 31-YEAR-OLD electrician who was crushed by a 1.5 tonne switchboard while working at the Palmerston Police Station construction site last week remains in the intensive care unit at Royal Darwin Hospital.
A Top End Health Service spokeswoman said man was in a stable condition today — six days after the injury.
NT WorkSafe, who is investigating the incident, said the man received “serious crush injuries” after he was pinned by the electrical switchboard about 9am Wednesday.
“The injured worker and two other workers were manoeuvring the switchboard into position for installation when the incident occurred,” it said in a statement last week.
“A non-disturbance notice has been issued preventing access to the switchboard room while the investigation continues.”
It’s understood a second worker was temporarily trapped but did not require medical attention.
A statement issued by Sitzler said the incident happened in the plant room area of the complex.
“Counselling support services have been made available to all workers on the site,” it said.
“Sitzler has health and safety embedded into the culture of all its operations.”
