A MAN who has never held a driver licence was arrested for alleged high range drink driving in Alice Springs.

Southern Watch Commander Shaun Furniss said about 10.20pm on Wednesday a 42-year-old man in a Mazda SUV was stopped on Railway Tce for erratic driving.

He returned a positive breath test result and was arrested. Later breath tests revealed he had a reading of 0.258 per cent. It was also found he had never held a drivers license.

Senior Sergeant Furniss expected the driver to be charged with high range drink driving and driving without a license once he sobered up.

“Again it astounds me that someone thinks it’s okay to drive after drinking alcohol and further not holding a licence at all,” he said.

“There were many pedestrians in the area. We will continue to remove these people from the road in an attempt to keep our community members safe.”
