The NT now has zero active COVID-19 cases after Defence Force member was cleared and released from hospital.

It’s been six and a half weeks since a COVID-19 case was diagnosed in the NT.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner confirmed the news Territory is free of coronavirus this morning.

“There are now no active cases of COVID-19 in the Territory,” he said.

“Thank you so much for everything you have done to keep the Territory the safest place in the country. We have been the absolute best.

“But the fight is not over yet.

“The battle against COVID-19 has been incredibly difficult so far. Territorians have sacrificed a lot. Businesses have had to shut down. And our frontline workers continue to put themselves at risk and work around the clock to keep the rest of us safe.”

The NT is now free of COVID-19, after the last person was cleared today. Health Minister Natasha Fyles is giving an update.

The NT will have to mark 28 days with zero cases for COVID-19 considered to be eradicated.

Health Minister Natasha Fyles warned Territorians to not to become complacent and said future outbreaks could still be possible.

“We are a safe bubble and we need to keep it that way,” she said.

“We’re working with the Commonwealth Government to Minister Greg Hunt this morning, and he is advising us that things are on track for us to remove those biosecurity zones on June 5 that will be the easing off one bubble, so to speak, so that inter-Territory travel will now happen.

“So we must remain vigilant during that time. We know the coronavirus spreads so quickly and because the symptoms are so mild.”

It comes after the other Australian Defence Force member was cleared of COVID-19 yesterday.

Two Australian Defence Force personnel were among five ADF members to touch down in Darwin on May 1 after returning from the Middle East.

The duo who tested positive for COVID-19, served out their recovery time in the NT, in the care of the Territory health system.

All 30 cases of coronavirus that have been diagnosed in the NT are related to international or interstate travel, and there have been no cases of community transmission.
