A NEW mega community centre in a growing Palmerston suburb is a step closer, after the NT government handed over vital land to the City of Palmerston.
The first part of the new Zuccoli Community Centre – a $350,000 dog park – will be complete by November.
Also mooted for the 47ha site is a skate park, library, community centre and walking trails, to be complete over the coming five years.

Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell welcomed the NT government’s decision to hand the crown land over.
“Following the end of council’s caretaker period, we’ll go into community consultation for the remainder of features,” Ms Pascoe-Bell said.
“Council has budgeted to put in some of these features over the next five years.”
NT Infrastructure Minister Eva Lawler said Zuccoli was among a number of Palmerston suburbs rapidly expanding and needed more facilities.
“We’ve seen two new schools come into this area,” Ms Lawler said.
“The land today will support (the community) – it will supplement and support what is going into this area.”
Ms Lawler said the new facility would complement a nearby oval.
