DARWIN residents were left shocked and confused when they spotted — and many filmed — strange blazing bright lights zig-zagging across the night sky.

The lights sparked speculation about UFOs and “alien visitors” on social media from the multiple witnesses.

The bizarre formation of lights were spotted from numerous locations including across Darwin, Kununarra and Nhulunbuy on Saturday night.

“We saw two objects falling with visible flames from Winnellie, you can see it zigzagging as it falls. Really weird!,” one local resident told ABC radio.

Another resident, Liam Grafton, said he was at the Darwin Golf Club when he saw the unidentified flying object.

“What is that? What is going on?,” he can been heard saying in the video.

“That is so strange.

“Straight up just saw a UFO,” he said.

But it turns out that at least some of mysterious Unidentified Flying Objects weren’t that unidentifiable at all.

Those bizarre lights were a troop of fearless skydivers with pyrotechnics attached to them, who were landing at the Darwin Cup Gala Ball on Saturday Night.

The night-time pyrotechnic skydivers created a visually enthralling show for the appreciative Gala Ball crowd.

But Mr Grafton still wasn’t convinced it wasn’t something more sinister.

“I believe the rumour is skydivers but I don’t think skydivers are meant to be on fire?,” he said.

“I’m no expert [but] the way they were moving didn’t look synchronised or rehearsed [from where I was].”

And skydivers over Fannie Bay doesn’t explain what witnesses in Kununarra and Nhulunbuy saw on Saturday night.

Seems the truth is still out there ...
