Izzy Craven gets on the bus to keep local youth safe

A Palmerston year 12 student and youth volunteer is spreading her message about road safety to local school kids.

PALMERSTON year 12 student and youth volunteer Isabelle “Izzy” Craven has got on the bus and is spreading her message about road safety to local school kids.

Her creative art message has been taken on the road and is touring Darwin – on the back of a Buslink NT bus.

Izzy, who already has a piece of art on display in the Darwin Museum as part of the “Exit Art” exhibition, put her latest piece of art together as part of a student competition held across the NT during NT Road Safety Week 2020.

Her design is now on the back of the Buslink bus, travelling along school bus route 235. Her poster displays children waiting at a set of traffic lights waiting for a bus to drive past, as well as the words “after exiting a bus, you should stop, look, listen and think, cross the road safely when green”.

Although she’s busy with her final year of high school, Izzy finds time to volunteer with the City of Palmerston’s ‘Youth Inspiring Palmerston’ (YIP) program.

She helps with developing events and programs for youth.

ComfortDelGroAustralia, which owns and operates Buslink NT, has paid tribute to Izzy and her fellow students for their creativity and the meaningful discussions that took place in the classroom and at home about the dangers of road safety distraction.

Regional division chief executive officer Tony Hopkins said it was wonderful to see Izzy’s winning piece now unveiled on the back of a bus.

“Road safety is a crucial part of our industry – it is the number one priority in our business at Buslink, and across our CDC companies nationally,” he said.
