POLICE seized 66 litres of alcohol destined for secondary sale following a tip from a community member in Tennant Creek.

On the evening of Saturday, April 17 police in Tennant Creek were informed by a member of the public of a home in an alcohol protected area allegedly selling liquor.

Tennant Creek police executed a search pursuant to the Liquor Act 2019, and found 66 litres of alcohol hidden under clothing and blankets inside the house.

Senior Sergeant Crispin Gargan said the alcohol likely came from people trafficking alcohol across the border.

“This alcohol has likely been imported by grog traffickers from interstate,” said Snr Sgt Gargan

“We cannot know how many assaults and domestic and family violence matters Tennant Creek police have proactively negated in the actions of seizing this alcohol.

“Those who seek to profit from such misery and harm should consider the criminality of their actions and their moral community responsibility.”

Inquiries to identify the alcohol’s owner continue. The offence of the sale of liquor not authorised by licence carries a maximum penalty of 300 penalty points, or imprisonment for three years.
