Hotter conditions are expected across the NT this week, with temperatures expected to be 10C higher than average in some places.

Warm weather will peak in the Red Centre on Thursday, with Alice Springs forecast to reach 30C about 10C above average while Yulara, Finke, Watarrka and Curtin Springs will reach 27-29C on Thursday, with strong and gusty winds forecast.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns it could stir up dust across the south before the cooler change in weather moves in from Friday.

In the Top End – Darwin will stay warm over the weekend with typical daytime temperatures of 31-33C forecast.

Dry conditions in the Top End expected tomorrow and Thursday will elevate the risk of fire danger in the northwest Daly District, with the driest and windiest conditions potentially tomorrow.

The nights are expected to be mild, with overnight temperatures forecast to hover around 20C at Darwin Airport.

The true dry season weather returns early next week however in the mean time cloud cover, fog and slightly more humid conditions will build up in the Top End from Thursday.

Sunday will be cool across Central Australia, with a daytime maximum temperature of 20C forecast for Alice Springs, 21C for Watarrka and 19C for Yulara and Curtin Springs.

Temperatures will gradually warm again in the south next week.
