A major crime scene has been established in Woodroffe after a man was glassed by an “unknown” man wielding a broken bottle.
On Woodroffe Ave, a blood-stained footpath and empty beer bottles opposite a childcare centre and near a school zone formed part of the police crime scene.
Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Sean Patterson said a 33-year-old man had been assaulted in the park by another man who was “unknown to him” about 1.13am.
At 8am the intersection of Woodroffe Ave and Sirius St was still cordoned off, as multiple officers scoured the area.
Some neighbours were still waiting outside their home, unable to re-enter until police had finished investigating.
The victim was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition and police say the offender is still at large.
An NT Police spokesman said the victim suffered puncture wounds to his back and chest in the assault.
“A crime scene has been declared and police will be working near the intersection of Woodroffe Ave and Sirius St,” the spokesman said.
“Traffic diversions are in place and Sirius St will be closed from Woodroffe Ave to Altair Court throughout the morning.
“Police urge anyone with information about the incident, particularly if you have home CCTV near Woodroffe Park, to make contact on 131 444, quoting reference number P25203523.
