WEAPONS, horns and fur combined for one epic Viking Funeral at Dinah Beach Yacht Club on Saturday night.
Donning their best interpretation of a Viking costume, locals and visitors from around the world came together to way their respects to old boats and fallen sailors.
The annual event is a favourite of many locals, including Sarah Meldrum, who said she had been attending since she was 8.
This year she also helped out with preparations, painting the head and shield of the sacrificial boat, which she said will good fortune for those on the seas.
“It’s always a good time and it brings luck to the sailors for the new year,” she said.
Her favourite parts of the night are the music scene and of course the burning effigy, but also how it brings like-minded people together.
“Everyone chips in, it’s a real community which is nice,” she said.
“That’s what great about Darwin.”
Newcomers to the event Jarnie Hardaker and Claire Wylie were proud to show off their homemade costumes, which Ms Hardaker said was not easy to find.
“We went to a few costume shops to try and get stuff but a lot was sold out,” she said.
“We’re all about the costumes.”
