DARWIN’S best dressed were out in force as thousands frocked up for another massive Bridge Toyota Ladies’ Day at the Darwin Turf Club.
Bubbles flowed as the women of Darwin showed off their best get-ups in a day where the racing was a backdrop for high fashion.
Sally Beere has been coming to Ladies’ Day for three years and called it the ideal occasion to get out to with friends.
“It’s the perfect event, having this every year is something to look forward to,” Ms Beere said.
“I’ve been coming every year since I came back to Darwin. It’s great, it’s at the peak of the dry and it’s a great chance to see people from down south.”
The winner for the Fashions on the Fields 2022 was Lily North with a vibrant, local look that was slowly curated over the past three months.
“I worked with a local designer Tatiana from Freyzzy Designs and she has designed this dress today and it’s made with a local indigenous artist print, Sarah Leo, as well,” Ms North said.
“The headpiece has been done by Peacock Millinery as well and even down to the earrings were custom matched to the colours in my dress by Kiara Jade Clay Designs.
“And the bag and shoes are from Stomp (Shoes Darwin) as well.”
For Gemma McIntyre and Charlie Clarke, it was a first time at the races coming down to see what all the hype from family and friends was about.
“Our family friends come every year so we thought we might as well, see what all the fuss was about,” Ms McIntyre said.
Rochelle Adams, the Darwin Cup Carnival ambassador in 2019, said it was great to see so many people go to so much effort for Ladies Day.
“Getting back out on the track after the Covid saga is so impressive,” Ms Adams said.
“Everyone’s gone to so much effort to make themselves look amazing, and I’m very surprised and very impressed with the amount of effort has gone to.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen this place so busy, it’s so great to see so many people up here.”
Jillian Edger made her own whole outfit to match her mustard shoes.
“I made it all to match my mustard coloured shoes, it’s so hard to find mustard coloured clothes,” Ms Edgar said.
“So, I found this material with Aboriginal print and it’s just fabulous. It’s just fabulous coming to Ladies Day, it’s amazing to catch up with friends.”
