Employer of man who sparked Darwin and Katherine’s 3-day lockdown revealed as Defence contractor

The employer of the positive Covid-19 case at the centre of Darwin and Katherine’s latest lockdown has been revealed.

THE man at the centre of the NT’s latest lockdown, who has refused to share his vaccination status to authorities, works for a Department of Defence contractor, it has been revealed.

A Defence spokesman confirmed the man his 30s who travelled to various locations around Darwin and Katherine before testing positive to Covid-19 is employed by one of its contractors.

“Defence is aware an employee of a contractor engaged by Defence has tested positive for Covid-19 in the Northern Territory,” he said.

“No Defence establishments have been identified as sites of exposure or concern.

“Defence continues to work closely with all state and territory authorities who are managing the public health response.

“Due to privacy reasons Defence will not be providing any further information on the individual involved.

The Tindal RAAF base is located 15km outside of Katherine.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner said the man, who flew to Australia from the United States, has been helpful in answering all other lines of inquiry.
