POLICE have received more than 100 reports from the public dobbing in people and businesses who are failing to comply with Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

Reports have included people having visitors to their homes, non-essential businesses continuing to operate and failure to wear face masks as required.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner on Monday when he announced the lockdown said he didn’t want to see Nightcliff packed like Bondi.

However the NT News visited popular sunset spots Cullen Bay, East Point and Nightcliff on Tuesday and found it dotted with groups sitting down.

At least five groups munched on fish and chips and a group of up to seven people relaxed at Cullen Bay, many people who sat down on the grassed area were not wearing masks.

A police spokeswoman said officers had visited businesses that were not complying with directions. One business has had to shut its doors.

“The number of fines issued for individuals contravening the emergency declaration during lockdown are still coming in,” the spokeswoman said. “NT Police can confirm two were issued on Monday August 16 and four on Tuesday August 17, but this could increase as files are updated.”
