DARWIN’S median rental price has risen the most out of all capital cities in Australia.
And renters in the NT capital pay the second highest weekly rent in the country.
That’s according to the latest PropTrack Rental Report for June, which compared weekly rents year-on-year.
In June 2022, the median rent for Darwinites was $550, an increase of 14.6 per cent.
It marks the highest amount since June 2015 and is second to Canberra’s median rent price.
In the regional area, median rent was $470.
The report also tracked how many rental properties were available, revealing an increase of 8.7 per cent in Darwin compared to last year.
Availability of rentals remains 51.8 per cent down on the decade average.
An increase in the supply of homes on the market has meant demand has eased, with the number of potential renters per listing dropping 3 per cent on the same time last year.
The report found the rental market was growing in the capital cities more so than regional areas.
Analysing national data, there was a shift back to rental demand in the city following an initial slump during the height of the pandemic.
