The cost of buying a house dropped in Darwin as 2021 closed out

Rents across the Territory’s capital city are dropping despite it still being one of the most expensive places to a buy a home.

Clearly 'inflationary pressures' are in the economy

DARWIN’S average house rents suffered a surprise $20 weekly decline in the December quarter.

New figures from leading property market anaylist Domain, show Darwin’s house rents fell 3.2 per cent over the quarter to $600 a week.

Darwin and Perth were the only two Australian capital cities not to post record high house rent prices for the December quarter.

The news, though, isn’t all good. Darwin’s house rent price is 9.1 per cent higher than last year’s $550 and is equal with Sydney and behind only Canberra as the country’s most expensive capital city to rent a house.

By contrast, Darwin’s unit weekly rents increased by 2.1 per cent in the December quarter to $480, making us the third most expensive capital to rent a flat.

Darwin’s rental vacancy rate is about middle of the field at 1.3 per cent.
