Darwin High student brings camping knife, toy gun to school
Police were called to a popular Top End school after a student was found with a camping knife and toy gun.

POLICE are investigating after a Darwin High student brought a camping knife and a toy/replica gun to school.
In a notice sent to parents, Darwin High principal Jill Hazeldine said staff were made aware a student brought the items to the school.
“Importantly, there were no threats made against anyone and at no time was anyone in danger,” Ms Hazeldine said.
“Our staff acted swiftly, raised concerns and managed the situation.
“Police were called and they will undertake an investigation, additional to the school investigation and consequences.
“Your child may discuss the situation with you tonight, so please let them know that police are investigating and that everyone is safe.”
Ms Hazeldine urged students with information on the incident to report it to the school.
“Darwin High School staff will continue to be vigilant when responding to incidents and information to ensure our school community is safe,” she said.
NT Police duty superintendent Mark Malorgorski confirmed investigations were underway.
“NT Police attended a senior school in Darwin today after a student was reported to be in possession of banned items, including an imitation firearm and a small hunting knife.,” he said.
“The items were seized by police and the incident is under investigation.”
The Education Department has been contacted for comment.
