Shocking footage of school brawl in Darwin rural area

TAMINMIN College has had to call a Code Red in response to an incident with a student.

It’s understood the students were restricted to their classrooms but were able to use phones during the time.

One student contacted a parent at 11.35am to let them know they were in a Code Red, saying they didn’t know what was happening and thought it might be a drill.

About 10 minutes later they told the parents the Code Red was over and they were being sent back to class.

Parents on social media say the school handled the situation well.

Principal Sue Healy sent out a note to parents on the communication app Compass after the Code Red was cancelled.

In it, the note said an incident occurred at 11.20am involving a student at the Special Education Centre who was having a “challenging day”.

The note said the student left the centre to walk around the school, and a lockdown was called during that time.

Police were also called.

St John Ambulance was called at 11.20am but was stood down before arriving at the school.

The school has so far refused to comment, saying they were speaking with the Education Department.

When contacted by the NT News, the Education Department was unaware of any incident at the school.

By 12.30pm calm had returned with students outside, enjoying their lunch time.

Emergency services have left the area.

Humpty Doo Police confirmed they attended a school Thursday morning to assist with calming an agitated student.

Ian Brown, whose daughter is in year 11 at Taminmin College, wasn’t aware that anything had happened.

“I didn’t even know till I showed up and saw you…but looks like they had it pretty well under control.”

Mr Brown said both his daughter’s had attended the college and he said “nothing like this had happened before.”

“Look every school has its problems but this one (school) is pretty good”.

In February 2021, footage of a brawl at the school went viral.

The shocking video showed two girls, one of whom was aged 14, punching and kicking each other while fellow students watch on can be heard shouting, “f***ing smash her”, and others attempt to intervene.
