A Darwin contractor could face life in prison if found guilty of industrial manslaughter after the 2020 death of one of his workers.

NT WorkSafe alleges Craig Williams of Rainbow Beach Constructions “recklessly ignored” warnings of the risk of falling from a height in the two-storey residential site in Bayview.

A 60-year-old worker was killed when he fell 3.2m through a void while moving cabinets into place for installation on April 8, 2020.

He was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with head lacerations but later died from his injuries.

It is alleged “a number of subcontractors” were concerned about the voids in the second-storey after scaffolding was removed but not replaced.

He was charged with one count of industrial manslaughter on Wednesday and will face Darwin Local Court on March 28.

The maximum penalty if Mr Williams is found guilty is life in prison.
