Darwin Christmas pageant to return November 18

Grants are available for community groups to get into the holiday spirit for this year’s annual Darwin Christmas Pageant. Read all the details here.

Darwin community groups, schools, businesses and not for profits will be able to receive grants to create their floats for this years Christmas pageant.

Registrations are now open for the November 18 “A very Darwin Christmas” pageant in Darwin City.

To help Territorians get into the spirit of the event, grants of up to $500 are available for groups to create a walking vehicle or float.

More than 900 participants in almost 50 floats took part in last year’s event, with more than 7000 spectators lining Darwin’s streets to get involved in the festivities.

The event is co-ordinated by the City of Darwin and the Northern Territory government.

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said the event showcased Darwin’s “vibrant community spirit”.

“Last year’s event was a huge success and we can’t wait to celebrate the spirit of Christmas with the Darwin community again,” she said.

“Christmas in the Territory is unique, and this event showcases our vibrant community spirit, it’s incredibly heartwarming to see so many Territorians come together at this special time of year.”

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the pageant was an opportunity for people to appreciate each other and “bring some fun and joy to our city”.

“This is a great start to the Darwin festive season and I encourage community groups across Darwin to get involved, celebrate Christmas and start designing a float.”
