It was all smiles and Santa hats on Christmas Day in Darwin and around the Top End.
Territorians were out and about on the jolliest day of the year, from Dundee to the Waterfront and Palmerston.
The temperature hovered around the low thirties, making for the first sunny day since ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie blew through the Daly region on Friday.
Those in the Top End took advantage of the sun and clear skies to spend Christmas out by the Darwin Lagoon or at the beach.
Many also chose to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant or hotel.
Durack resident Michelle Parker was just one of many who decided to hang up the apron on Christmas Day.
“I’ve been cooking Christmas lunch for 42 years, and this year we thought we’d do something so special,” she said.
“We love the Rydges at Palmerston and we love the chef and we love the food so we came in to spoil ourselves.
“We left home without an oven on, without masses of food and the mixer turning – and instead came out for a gorgeous lunch thanks to the beautiful staff that have done all this for us.”
Darlene and David Liebelt were among the packed house at the Hilton Darwin enjoying a six-course degustation.
“Instead of having traditional Christmas, this has been as good a meal you can have anywhere – and we’ve been to a lot of places. Absolutely fantastic,” Mr Liebelt said.
“The staff have given up their Christmas Day so we can have a good time – and they’re all happy to be here. It’s amazing,” Ms Liebelt said.
