A DARWIN dad has pleaded guilty to causing a crash which killed his five-year-old son, after originally flagging his intention to plead not guilty due to “automatism due to a medically diagnosed illness.”
Jye Mulhall, 28, pleaded guilty on June 11 to one charge of driving a motor vehicle causing harm or death.
The charge relates to a crash in 2019 outside Adelaide River which caused the death of Dmitri Charles Mulhall.
Mulhall’s lawyer, Thelma Gray, previously told the court he would run a defence of “automatism due to a medically diagnosed illness”, with a trial originally set to begin this week.
Speaking to Channel 9 outside court yesterday, where he attended for sentencing submissions,
Mr Mulhall said he wanted Dmitri to be remembered “as my son.”
“A beautiful, charming little fella.”
Mulhall will return to court on July 16 for sentencing.
