AN Alice Springs traditional owner and a project manager born and raised in the NT are the latest candidates picked by the Country Liberal Party to run in the August election.
The NT News can reveal project manager Toby George will run against Labor Minister Paul Kirby in the seat of Port Darwin.
Alice Springs traditional owner and veteran police liaison officer Phillip Alice has been preselected in the rural seat of Stuart, due to be renamed “Gwoja”.
He is the only candidate for the seat so far, after current Labor-turned-independent MLA Scott McConnell indicated he would be contesting the seat of Braitling in the upcoming election.

“Communities outside of the main centres deserve to be treated with respect by the Government. We need access to services just like people in the towns and cities do too,” Mr Alice said.
Mr George, who was in the running during the first CLP preselection race for Port Darwin, replaces lawyer Rose Watts, who dropped out of the election race less than a month after being named.
CLP president Ron Kelly said at the time that Ms Watts had dropped out for “personal reasons”.
Mr George was born and bred in the NT and has worked in project management for 10 years across both the public and private sectors.
“Toby’s experience and understanding of project management means he gets it when it comes to what the Territory needs going forward. We’re thrilled to have him on board fighting in Port Darwin,” Mr Kelly said.

A respected community leader at Santa Teresa 70km southeast of Alice Springs, Mr Alice was named as a candidate for the Australian Country Party in June 2019, the same month the Victorian branch of the party deregistered in that state.
The ACP has since been renamed the Australian Federation Party.
“Phillip will add a breadth of life and professional experience that places the Country Liberal Party in good stead,” Mr Kelly said.
