CLP considers candidate Josh Thomas’ future after Johnston by-election failure

THE Country Liberals are still contemplating whether candidate Josh Thomas will run again in August following an embarrassing loss in the Johnston by-election

THE Country Liberals are still contemplating whether candidate Josh Thomas will run again in August following an embarrassing loss in the Johnston by-election.

CLP president Ron Kelly said it was still to early to say if the party would open up the seat of Johnston for candidate preselection again ahead of the August general election.

He said the party was “taking stock” after the CLP’s by-election failure on Saturday after its primary vote count was down 15 per cent compared with the 2016 Territory election in that seat.

“We haven’t finalised anything yet,” he said.

“We still have to discuss whether our candidate is still interested in running again or not and we need to take stock of what happened in the by-election.”
