GREATER Brisbane has been declared a COVID-19 hot spot by the NT government, with all travellers entering the Territory required to go into mandatory quarantine effective immediately.
The City of Brisbane, City of Ipswich, Logan City, Moreton Bay Region and Redland City were declared hot spots at 9.15am this morning.
It comes as Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced a three-day lockdown for Greater Brisbane after a hotel quarantine worker in her 20s tested positive to the virus’ highly infectious UK variant.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner, who is currently in Queensland, made a statement on social media declaring the hot spots.
“I have just called an emergency SEMC with the Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister, and I have some urgent news to update everyone on,” he said.
“Throughout this pandemic we warned that things could change quickly … and once again, they have.
“We said that the number one priority is to protect the lives of Territorians. And that if we have to go hard, early and wide … then we would. And we are.
“Effective immediately we have declared the Greater Brisbane region a hot spot. This includes the council areas of Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton, and Redlands.
“This supports the rapid action taken by the Queensland Government to do everything they can to trace and trap in Greater Brisbane.
“This means anyone arriving in the Territory today from these regions will have to enter mandatory quarantine.
“Unfortunately right now there are incoming flights from Brisbane about to land in Yulara and in Darwin.
“People on these flights will be given the option of returning to Brisbane or entering mandatory quarantine.
“I am in national cabinet this morning with the Prime Minister and other Premiers, and I will provide another update straight after that.”
