Chief health officer Dr Hugh Heggie on leave after marathon stint managing pandemic

THE TERRITORY’S chief health officer is taking his first holiday since the COVID-19 pandemic began more than a year ago.
Dr Hugh Heggie, who has been a prominent figure in the NT’s response to the pandemic, will be taking six weeks of “recreational leave” from Thursday, April 22, a statement from NT government said.

Deputy chief health office Dr Charles Pain will take the reins in Dr Heggie’s absence.
“Dr Heggie is taking leave after 16 months at the coalface of the Northern Territory’s health response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the statement said.
