The return of the Students on Track program, and an additional full day of practice rounds at the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown, will have Supercars fans buzzing at Hidden Valley this year.

THE return of the Students on Track program, and an additional full day of practice rounds at this year’s Merlin Darwin Triple Crown, will have Supercars fans buzzing at Hidden Valley.

Organisers said the practice event for Supercars, Stadium Super Trucks and Australian Superbikes will take place at 9.30am on Friday, June 18, open to all ages.

The main races will be held on the Saturday and Sunday, with three-day “Hot Pass” ticket holders added to the practice session.

North Australian Motor Sport Club secretary Garry Dempsey said the Supercars provided a great opportunity for local racers to get involved in one of the country’s biggest racing events.

“North Australian Motor Sport Club (NAMSC) is grateful to take part in the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown as a support category,” he said.

“This will be the 23rd year in a row NAMSC has been invited to field all their local racing categories to support this great Supercars event.”

He said the addition of the Improved Productions, HQ Holdens and Commodore Cup support categories, complimenting the Supercars, Stadium Trucks and Australian Superbikes made for an exciting program.

“As always, our field will do as much as possible to provide plenty of action on the track from the Improved Production, HQ Holdens and Commodore Cup categories,” he said.

“The combination of these three categories on track together, with such a diverse variety of vehicles, means there is always something going on.

“Local cars, Supercars, Superbikes, Drag Cars, Stadium Trucks, live music all in the one location over three days will be unreal.”

Major Events Minister Natasha Fyles said the first 500 students who also apply at the web address darwinsupercars.com.au would get the chance to be part of the Students on Track program and get a behind the scenes glimpse of the action.

“Through the Students on Track program there will be opportunities for young Territorians to see how their studies in subjects like maths, engineering, physical education, tourism and media studies can be applied in a motorsports event,” she said.

“This event is also an opportunity to showcase the Northern Territory nationwide via telephone broadcast.”

Teachers must register their students by Friday, 28 May 2021.

The Merlin Darwin Triple Crown runs from June 18-20 at Hidden Valley Motro Sports Complex.
