CHARLES Darwin University has appointed an inaugural Associate Vice-Chancellor for Katherine and the Big Rivers region.
Katherine local Alison Haines was appointed as part of the university’s plan to grow the local workforce within the Territory.
Ms Haines grew up in the NT and has worked as a CDU Vocational Education and Training (VET) educator remotely and in Katherine. She has been based at CDU’s Katherine campus since 2014.
CDU Vice-Chancellor Scott Bowman said he was confident having local leadership in the region would ensure growth.
“Katherine is a becoming a powerhouse of the Northern Territory and CDU is going to be with it all the way to ensure it meets its full potential,” he said.

He said CDU would expand its delivery in Katherine to include an agricultural business degree, outdoor education, cooker, hospitality and trades.
Ms Haines said expanding Katherine’s course offerings was key to revitalising the region and encouraging economic growth.
“We have an obligation to the local community and region and I will continue to work closely with them to ensure we are filling the gaps between education, training and creation of a skilled workforce,” she said.
