British royalty flies into the Top End

The 11th in line to British throne. Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, will be in the Territory today.

PRINCE Edward, the Earl of Wessex, will touch down in Darwin this afternoon, more than a year after his brother Prince Charles visited.

Prince Edward is touring Australia to promote the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, the world’s leading youth achievement award.

Forgotten Prince headed to Darwin

He made a stop in Alice Springs before travelling to Darwin, where he will be greeted at Government House by NT Administrator Vicki O’Halloran AO.

Prince Edward will then meet Chief Minister Michael Gunner on the steps of Parliament House.

On Tuesday Prince Edward will visit Sanderson Middle School, where students plan to introduce him to Australian rules football and handball.

The visit was announced by Mrs O’Halloran at the start of September.

“I am very pleased that His Royal Highness will have the opportunity to experience the traditional warmth and signature hospitality of the Territory and Territorians,” she said.
