Thousands of invited guests, Territorians and visitors attended Sunday’s 81st Bombing of Darwin commemeration at Darwin Esplanade.
As onlookers fanned themselves with anything they could get their hands on in the stultifying conditions, Australian Defence Force personnel staged a re-enactment of the bombing including a RAAF flyover, 1st Aviation Regiment flypast and an ammunition round by four 105mm Howitzer guns.
The City of Darwin estimated more than 3000 people attended the commemoration.
