THE CareFlight rescue helicopter had to pick up a second medical crew to assist a boatload of fishos at Dundee when it was called while already delivering an emergency case to Royal Darwin Hospital.
The helicopter was called out to pick up a 61-year-old man who began suffering severe abdominal pain on Sunday while working near the community of Kabulwarnamyo, more than 200km east of Jabiru.

He was picked up, given treatment on board the chopper and taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.
While at the hospital, the helicopter was tasked by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to help the occupants of the boat who had let off an emergency distress beacon near Dundee.
The medical crew stayed at RDH to complete their patient handover, while the pilot and aircrew flew to CareFlight’s Darwin base to collect another medical crew before heading to Dundee to find the boat.

The crew found the boat and lowered a radio down to the four men on-board to assess their condition.
All four men were in a stable condition and a nearby vessel helped them back to shore.
