Advocates for protecting Territory rivers launch campaign

Advocates for protecting Territory rivers have banded together to launch Territory Rivers.

ADVOCATES for protecting Territory rivers have banded together to launch Territory Rivers – Keep ’Em Flowing.

The group, made up of residents, fishos, tour operators and environmental organisations are working to protect NT free-flowing rivers.

Environment Centre NT co-director Kirsty Howey said there were concerns large amounts of water was being used for agricultural purposes.

Pew Charitable Trusts NT manager Mitch Hart said there had been community support to protect the health of the rivers.

“The Top End has a unique lifestyle worth protecting. Free-flowing tropical rivers are extraordinarily rare and our rivers are internationally significant,” he said.
