Police hunt for Alice Springs bottle shop ram raiders
An Alice Springs bottle shop was allegedly ram raided and alcohol stolen, with police now calling for help to track down the offenders.
An NT Police spokesman said he understood a vehicle was used to break down the security door of the premises on Milner Road in Gillen and gain entry.
“We don’t know until the owners of the bottle shop arrive but I would suggest a considerable amount of alcohol was taken,” he said.
He said unfortunately there was little information to go off in the absence of CCTV.
“What we believe from witnesses it was a white four-wheel drive of some description,” the spokesman said.
“We don’t have any leads on who the (alleged) offenders might be at the moment.”
Forensics team will be attending the scene before Strike Force Viper takes over the matter.
A similar ram-raid incident occurred at Todd Tavern earlier this month.
Youths allegedly steal car in Darwin crime spree
Four young Territorians have been arrested after a string of alleged crimes across the Darwin area on Tuesday evening.
Police claim they first received reports about a group of boys stealing alcohol worth $300 from the Vintage Cellars in Darwin City.
They were then alerted to two young people holding up a woman at the Rapid Creek Markets before taking her keys and stealing her car.
The youths then allegedly entered the 24/7 store on Mitchell St in the CBD and stole money from the cash register.
About $1300 in cash and property was allegedly stolen from the store.
Police soon identified the groups from CCTV footage and Members from Strike Force Trident, Dog Operations Unit, Territory Intelligence Division and General Duties tracked down the group.
They arrested four alleged offenders and located the stolen car.
Police allegedly spat on during arrest in Alice Springs
A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting police in an Alice Springs suburb overnight.
Southern Watch Commander Tim Healey said police were attending to a disturbance in Gillen about midnight on Monday.
“While they were conducting inquiries a male (allegedly) spat in the face of a police member,” he said,
“A 27-year-old male was arrested and is currently in the watch house.”
Commander Healey said the incident was being treated as a standard assault.
“It’s something the guys shouldn’t put up with when they’re going to work,” he said.
A motion passed in the September Parliamentary sittings made spitting at emergency workers an offence in line with aggravated assault and one that could carry a penalty of up to 10 years in jail.
Man allegedly caught dealing drugs in a Top End carpark
A bag of drugs, multiple mobile phones and SIM cards were found, after a police body search, on a man who was allegedly dealing from a Palmerston car park early Saturday morning.
Police allege the 29-year-old tried to throw away drugs and push them underneath his vehicle after attempting to flee the scene.
The 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to the Watch House and charged with drug offences.
He is due to appear before Darwin Local Court Monday.
The success of the arrest was credited to the eyes in the skies – police CCTV operators who spotted the man and alerted Trident members.
In a separate incident, surveillance operators proved their worth again when they spotted a group of kids carjack a vehicle stopped for fuel at a servo in Malak.
Police say the victim was allegedly placed in a headlock and dragged from the vehicle by the group before they fled in the stolen vehicle on Saturday evening.
Operators captured the incident on camera and continued to track the group, alerting Trident and Dog Operations members.
Police tracked the vehicle through the rural area before deploying tyre deflation devices in Karama.
The group were still able to travel to Tiwi where they abandoned the vehicle.
Patrol Dog Drax moved in and sniffed out a boy hiding in a downstairs storeroom in a Tiwi home.
A second boy was also arrested after fleeing to a nearby park area.
Both boys have been charged with alleged aggravated robbery offences.
Strike Force Trident are continuing to investigate and locate the remaining offenders.
