A drug bust has allegedly disrupted a supply chain into “vulnerable” remote communities in the Territory.

Northern Territory Police arrested a 56-year-old man in a remote community in the East Arnhem Region.

Senior Sergeant Emma Carter said the dog squad picked up the scent, leading to 615g of cannabis and a stash of cash allegedly being seized in a search of a home.

Sergeant Carter congratulated Rafa, a drug detection dog, who responded to the man.

“This is great work by the handler and Drug Detection Dog Rafa, whose presence in the community is important to disrupt the supply of illicit substances that make their way into vulnerable communities,” she said.

“Police will continue to target those who attempt to transport illicit substances and those who intend to profit from vulnerable persons.”

The 56-year-old was charged with possessing and supplying a commercial quantity of drugs, receiving property in commission of an offence, and possessing a thing to administer drugs.

A court date has not yet been confirmed.

It is the second bust PD Rafa has made after police seized up to 1600 bags of cannabis in East Arnhem in August.

A large bag wrapped in black tape was found to be concealing around 1.6kg of the illicit substance.

Police arrested a 21-year-old at the scene.
