Police released the statement as required by NT Police Transparency Guidelines.

If found guilty, the officer could face seven years of jail time.

Cops call for witnesses over frenzied attack with star picket

A man who was refused entry into an Alice Springs sports bar allegedly broke a mobile phone and computer before throwing a star picket, police say.

In a statement, police claim at 5.40pm on Monday the intoxicated man was removed from the Eastside Club, before returning with the star picket and chased a staff member.

A patron attempted to call police when it is alleged the man grabbed his phone and smashed it, and a nearby computer, before throwing the star picket at him.

However, the staff member managed to apprehend and escort the man out the front of the venue where the patron and staff member were allegedly assaulted following “another disturbance”.

Four unknown men are also alleged to have joined the altercation with one of the men kicking the 63-year-old staff member before stomping on his head.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV to identify the other offenders, who are described as Aboriginal males in their 20s.

Anybody with information is encouraged to call 131 444.

Vehicles pinched in Alice Springs

A NUMBER of vehicles have been stolen from homes and business premises overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday morning in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.

Senior Sergeant Andrew Heath said offenders had attempted to steal a Holden Jackaroo and a Volvo from a property on Cummings St in Braitling but failed.

“They crashed the Jackaroo into the Volvo and they ran away – so those vehicles weren’t stolen,” Sgt Heath said.

Another break-in occurred in Braitling on Valley Court where a silver Holden Cruze was stolen and later recovered along the Stuart Hwy with crash damage to the front.

“That’s been seized and towed to the compound for forensics,” he said.

On Kramer St, a house was entered about 2.20am where a silver ford ranger and a silver Toyota Camry was stolen.

“We used traffic deflation devices and spiked the tyres on the Ford Ranger in Schwarz Cres,” He said.

“All of the offenders ran away and we were unable to apprehend them but that vehicle has also been towed to the compound for forensic analysis.

“Strike Force viper will be investigating these offences today.”

Patrolling police discovered two Toyota Hilux’s and a Troop Carrier had been stolen from a Tennant Creek health clinic.

“(We’ve) since recovered both Hilux's and a 17 to 18-year-old youth have been arrested,” Sgt Heath said.

“Later on we did try to spike the tires on the troop carrier and at the Warrego Rd and Stuart Hwy intersection and that failed so both matters are under investigation today at Tennant Creek.”
