A man who allegedly unlawfully entered a licensed premises in Alice Springs and was placed under citizen’s arrest by the on-site chef, has been arrested by police and taken into custody.

A MAN who allegedly unlawfully entered a licensed premises in Alice Springs and was placed under citizen’s arrest by the on-site chef, has been arrested by police and taken into custody.

Police allege around 11.30am two people forced entry into the Todd Tavern, where they caused criminal damage to bar fridges to access alcohol.

Several staff members were on premises at the time and disturbed the alleged offenders, apprehending one man in the process before calling police.

A 40-year-old man was taken into police custody and transported to the Alice Springs Watch House where it is expected he will be charged with one count each of damage to property and aggravated enter dwelling intent to commit offence.

Investigations to identify the other person involved in the incident continues, and police urge anyone with information which would assist with investigations, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Cops arrest men for alleged assault

POLICE have arrested and charged two people after an assault and robbery of a 62-year-old woman in Bellamack on Sunday.

They were alerted to the incident by a member of the public just after 1am on Sunday morning.

It is alleged a 14-year-old male assaulted the woman before knocking her off her electronic scooter.

The youth then rode around on the scooter before he was apprehended by police.

An 18-year-old is alleged to have fled the scene on the scooter and assaulted a K9 handler after a lengthy pursuit.

Both males were charged with aggravated robbery.

The youth was also charged with damage to property and is bailed to appear before court at a later date.

The 18-year-old will appear before Darwin Local Court today, charged with trespass on premises, assault of a member of the police force and resisting police in the execution of duty.

Two-year-old nearly drowns

A TWO-YEAR-OLD child nearly drowned in a pool in a “parents’ worst nightmare” situation, according to St John Ambulance.

St John NT Operations Manager Craig Garraway told the ABC on Monday morning the toddler “nearly drowned” about 1pm on Sunday but was pulled out and then seen to by paramedics.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Mr Garraway said.

“It’s a parents’ worst nightmare, this. They call it the silent death.”

The toddler was taken to hospital but “thankfully the little child was OK”, Mr Garraway said.

Six minor crashes across the Territory following Black Dog Ride

There were six minor crashes across the Territory over the weekend, including two motorbikes colliding on a major Darwin thoroughfare.

St John NT Operations Manager Craig Garraway said the motorbikes collided on Tiger Brennan Dr just before 2pm on Sunday.

Mr Garraway said there were many groups of riders around Darwin with the Black Dog Ride being held on Sunday.

“Sometimes everyone’s riding in close proximity of each other and somebody stops quickly and somebody runs into them, so I’d say that’s probably what’s happened, coming to the intersection there,” he told the ABC on Monday morning.

However, he said all six crashes only resulted in minor injuries.

Chef performs citizen’s arrest during booze raid

A TODD Tavern chef successfully performed a citizen’s arrest on a would-be thief while another escaped following a daring attempted booze theft overnight in Alice Springs, police say.

Alice Springs Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Andrew Heath said staff at the Todd St tavern were woken by the sound of broken glass between 10.30am and 11.30am on Sunday night, as two men attempted to steal several cans of rum.

“The chef managed to arrest an offender and held that adult male until police arrived,” Sgt Heath said.

“He was taken into custody and is currently being processed for unlawful entry and stealing.

“Several occupants of the hotel room were woken by the sound of glass windows smashing, staff got up, one was grabbed and the other escaped.”
