Nine people have been arrested after they allegedly stole three cars and damaged an unmarked police car.
NT Police Commander Kylie Anderson said the alleged stolen cars were seen driving through Marlow Lagoon, Coconut Grove, and Greater Darwin areas about 2am Thursday.
Commander Anderson said Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations unit were deployed to track down the vehicles and their occupants.
She said police busted the first car’s occupants on a median strip on the Stuart Hwy in Coolalinga.
Before arresting three people, she said the driver reversed into the police car and damaged the front of the unmarked vehicle.
Commander Anderson said officers arrested three 17-year-old boys in the second car about 6.30am.
She said three more people were arrested in Virginia, and the third car was found abandoned on Flightpath Rd, Berrimah.
“These arrests have absolutely prevented a larger crime series from occurring and I commend all officers involved who deployed quickly, recovered three allegedly stolen vehicles and arrested nine alleged offenders, all without serious incident,” Commander Anderson said.
“Investigations remain ongoing and we are urging anyone with dashcam footage capturing erratic driving earlier this morning in Palmerston, Berrimah, Coconut Grove, Marlow Lagoon, Coolalinga and Adelaide River to make contact on 131 444.
